Obamacare Endures

June 4, 2018

This week, Virginia finally expanded the Medicaid presence in that state, giving 400,000 low-income citizens access (starting Jan. 1) to Obamacare affordable health insurance. The bill passed when four Republican state senators crossed over to support it.

Although Obamacare’s provisions have not been implemented in 18 states, it is expected that Maine, Utah, Nebraska, and Idaho will follow suit with Virginia; and in some strongly Democratic states the governors are signing or are expected to sign legislation creating an individual citizen mandate in order to counter the Trump administration’s repeal of the federal mandate (included in the tax bill last December).

All of this is a strong indication that Obamacare, despite the current administration and Republican-led Congress, will survive as the law of the land.
